About Belmond
An independent publication about how gambling works, written for people who would rather know the number than be told a story about it.
Belmond publishes explanatory writing about the arithmetic, rules and history of gambling. That means house edge and expected value, the published return-to-player figures on slot machines, the third-card tableau in baccarat, the technical standards a regulator imposes on a random number generator, and where the fifty-two card deck came from.
We currently publish 16 pieces across 5 sections: Odds & Bankroll, Table Games, Slots & RNG, Poker & Skill and Cards & History.
What we are not
This matters more than what we are, because the category is full of sites that look similar and do something entirely different.
- We are not a gambling operator. Belmond does not accept wagers, does not hold or apply for a gambling licence in any jurisdiction, and does not operate, represent or act as an agent for any gambling business.
- We are not an affiliate. There are no affiliate links on this site, no tracking links, no bonus codes, no promotional offers and no revenue share with any operator. Nothing here earns money when a reader goes on to gamble.
- We do not rank or recommend operators. There is no “best casinos” list, no sportsbook comparison and no reviews of gambling sites. Where a commercial product is named — a slot title, a game studio — it is because a specific published figure is being cited and attributed.
- We do not give gambling advice. Nothing here is a tip, a prediction, a system or a recommendation to place any bet. Our position on every game we cover is that it has a negative expected value for the player, and we say so in the piece.
Who this is for
People who gamble occasionally and would like to understand the price. People who do not gamble and are curious about how the industry’s arithmetic works. Students of probability who want worked examples with real numbers attached. Anyone who has ever been told that a machine was “due” and wondered whether that could possibly be true.
It is written for adults of legal gambling age. That is 18 in Great Britain, Australia and most of Canada, and 21 in most jurisdictions of the United States.
How we work
Every numerical claim on this site — every house edge, RTP, probability, regulation, date and helpline number — comes from a source we opened, and each article lists the sources it used with the date they were checked. Where sources disagree, we say so rather than picking one quietly. Our editorial standards page sets out the sourcing, fact-checking and corrections policy in full.
We publish under the masthead rather than under bylines. Pieces are not attributed to named authors, and we do not claim credentials, qualifications, awards or industry experience we cannot evidence.
Responsible gambling
Gambling carries a real risk of financial and personal harm. Every page of this site carries an age notice and a route to help, and our responsible gambling resources page lists free, confidential support services in Great Britain, the United States, Australia and Canada, along with self-exclusion schemes and blocking tools. We are not affiliated with any of those organisations and receive nothing for listing them.
Contact
Corrections, questions and complaints all go to the same place: info@belmond.click. If you have found an error in a figure, tell us — we would rather fix it than defend it. See our contact page for what to include.
