Responsible Gambling Resources
If gambling is causing you or someone you know difficulty, free and confidential help is available. The services below are independent public and charitable bodies. Belmond is not affiliated with any of them and receives nothing for listing them.

If you or someone else is at immediate risk of harm, contact your local emergency services. In the United States call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, or call 911. In the United Kingdom call 999, or 111 for urgent medical help.

Visit Gambling TherapySigns worth taking seriously
- Gambling with money you cannot afford to lose, or with money set aside for something else.
- Trying to win back losses by gambling more, or gambling longer than you intended.
- Borrowing money, selling things or hiding transactions in order to gamble.
- Lying to family, friends or colleagues about how much you gamble.
- Gambling to escape stress, low mood, loneliness or boredom.
- Feeling restless or irritable when you try to cut down or stop.
- Neglecting work, study, family or things you used to enjoy.
- Arguments about money or gambling with the people close to you.
None of these on its own means someone has a gambling problem, and this is not a diagnostic tool. If several of them are familiar, the services above are free, they are confidential, and they are used by a great many people who were not sure whether their situation counted.
Practical tools
- Self-exclusion
- In Great Britain, GAMSTOP blocks every licensed online operator with a single free registration, and land-based schemes cover betting shops, arcades, bingo and casinos. In the United States, most state regulators run voluntary self-exclusion programmes — contact your state gaming commission. Australia’s BetStop is the national self-exclusion register for licensed online wagering.
- Bank blocks
- Most major banks now offer an optional gambling-transaction block that declines payments to gambling merchants, often with a cooling-off period before it can be switched off. It is usually a setting in the banking app, and it is free.
- Blocking software
- Tools such as Gamban and BetBlocker restrict access to gambling sites and apps across your devices. BetBlocker is free. Some treatment providers and operators supply licences at no cost.
- Deposit and time limits
- Licensed operators are required to offer deposit limits and reality checks. Setting them takes a minute, and in most jurisdictions a reduction takes effect immediately while an increase is subject to a delay.
If it is someone else
Every helpline listed above takes calls from family members and friends, not only from people who gamble. GambleAware’s friends-and-family check-in is written specifically for people affected by someone else’s gambling, and Gam-Anon runs support groups for the same audience. You do not need the person’s permission, or their agreement that there is a problem, to ask for advice about your own situation.
Contact details on this page were checked on 20 August 2026 against each organisation’s own published information. Note that the National Council on Problem Gambling adopted 1-800-MY-RESET as its national helpline number in January 2026; many sites still print the previous number.
